Covered Bridge Abutments
In February 1865, Confederate troops in a futile effort to prevent Union soldiers from entering Columbia burned the State Road covered bridge connecting the banks of the Saluda River. The abutments and supporting piers can be seen from the Saluda River foot bridge which connects the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden properties.
