Badwell Cemetery Historical Marker
The Scenic Highway now follows SC 28 out of McCormick. Just north of the town is a marker, which tells the story of the nearby Badwell Cemetery. Notables buried there include the Rev. Gene Louis Gibert, a leader of the 1764 settlement of French Huguenots at the settlement of New Bordeaux. Like others, the Huguenots arrived in Charleston to enjoy the religious freedom that distinguished South Carolina from its early days, and spread across the state.
